Dan Tomassetti uses his 20+ years of experience in the fine-dining, specialty/gourmet food and wine industries to liven up presentations regarding his other long-standing passion; coffee. Dan works with Alakef Coffee, a small, family-owned craft roaster located on the shores of Lake Superior in Duluth, MN. He provides educational experiences to gourmet groups, baristas-to-be, coffee shop operators, and other Alakef Aficionados (not to be confused with the “other” AA group).  

 

Your browser may not support display of this image.The name Alakef is a Hebrew phrase loosely translated as “hits the spot”, was started over 15 years ago as a longing for the best quality green coffees, freshly roasted to their best nuances. They continue to serve a divergent mix of independently-owned coffee shops, specialty grocers, and other locally-owned businesses that focus on a locally roasted coffee of exceptional quality.

Sit back and let Dan from Alakef Coffee lead you through a lightly caffeinated presentation including a coffee roasting demonstration, coffee cupping, and a lively discussion of the factors which make a small amount of coffees superior to others.


Sniff and see green coffee beans as they are roasted tableside along with a discussion on how roasting affects the complex array of coffee flavors and aromas.


Slurp and savor during the coffee cupping portion of the session. Cupping coffee involves sampling coffee in the manner of a professional coffee taster; in a formal setting. Learn how to describe what you like in a cup of coffee with a unique experience that mashes the evaluation process used in wine tasting with a little coffee klatch.
